ALL ARE WELCOME IN THIS PLACE!

ALL ARE WELCOME IN THIS PLACE!
A Letter from the Program Staff at Christ Church:
Christ Church United Methodist, a congregation that is over 220 years old, is a welcoming community of faith, hope and love serving our neighbors and the world as the hands of Christ.
Inclusion has always been a part of our church DNA that reaches back to the mid-1800s when our church ancestors created Sunday School classes for African Americans living in Charleston. These Sunday school classes were empowered to start what is now Simpson Memorial United Methodist Church, also in downtown Charleston. This sense of inclusion, mission and outreach continues to this day.
• We believe in the United Methodist Church, whose mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
• We also believe that the world is our parish, and ALL are welcome.
• We believe that every person is God’s child, God’s chosen one, loved by God.
• We affirm the sacred worth of ALL PERSONS, and we welcome ALL PEOPLE into the life of Christ Church.
• We affirm the commitment of Christ Church to be a church of open hearts, open minds and open doors.
• We affirm our belief that Christ Church should be open to every person regardless of age, gender, marital status, nationality, race, disability or sexual orientation.
• We affirm the commitment of Christ Church to seek better ways to embrace our diversity while journeying together in fulfilling the mission of Christ.
• We will always remain guided through scripture, tradition, reason and experience (The Wesley Quadrilateral.)
If the recent divisiveness in the United Methodist Church has left you without a church home, and you are looking for a welcoming and inclusive faith community, Christ Church is a church for you! Christ Church is a regional church, with some people traveling upwards of 45-60 minutes twice a week to participate in ministries. Our goal is to become a “Centrum of Faith, a Tower of Hope and a Community of Love” for the city of Charleston, the Kanawha Valley, and beyond.
